Turning 16 is considered a big deal by most teenagers. This is the age where girls can finally drive, get a job and are one step closer to becoming a woman. If your daughter is turning 16 soon, think about throwing her a big party. This party can cost a bit of money, but it doesn’t have to be expensive. Here are some tips for throwing a sweet 16 party on a budget.
Make the Cake Yourself
The cake can actually be one of the more expensive parts of this celebration. If you buy a fancy cake from an upscale bakery, it could end up costing you over $100. If you want to save yourself some money, just bake the cake yourself. Even if you are not a skilled baker, you can bake a cake that tastes delicious and looks beautiful.
Play Music from a Stereo
Your daughter’s friends will definitely want upbeat music to listen to during the party, but that does not mean you have to spend an arm and a leg on a DJ. Instead, make an iPod mix of popular songs and play it from a stereo.
Choose an Affordable Venue
In most cases, the venue for the sweet 16 party will use up a large chunk of the budget. Instead of throwing the party at a fancy hotel or club, have it at a local recreation center or public park. Your daughter’s guests will still have plenty of room to dance around and have a good time. You can also consider throwing the party at your home. If you have a big backyard, your house will make a great venue for the party.
It is good idea to thank the guests for coming by giving them party favors. However, these favors do not have to cost a fortune. For example, consider buying personalized key chains, mirror compacts, sweet 16 candles and bookmarks. These party favors are simple yet thoughtful. They also are very affordable and will be appreciated by all the guests.
Invite Guests Online
If you are planning on inviting a lot of guests, you could wind up spending a lot of money on postage stamps and invitations. To save money, just invite the guests online. For example, if you have a Facebook account, create an event on the social media site and invite your guests on it.
Ask Relatives to Provide Dishes
Catering a sweet 16 party can also get really expensive, so you should consider asking your relatives to provide dishes. If you have at least five or six relatives that are willing to provide food, you can definitely save a lot of money. They don’t have to provide anything fancy; a potato casserole or lasagna will please teenagers.
